Hello again! I'm writing from work, feeling incredibly tired and counting down the minutes until I can catch some much-needed sleep. With only three weeks left in my co-op, I'm more eager than ever to absorb knowledge about various hospital units. Fortunately, as students, we have the opportunity to shadow pharmacists in different units for three half-days. In my last post, I shared my experience shadowing NICU and pediatrics, which was adorable and fascinating. Yesterday, I had the chance to shadow the renal unit, delving into the dialysis process and its purpose. However, today brought an exceptionally captivating experience – witnessing a knee replacement surgery from start to finish. It was a truly remarkable opportunity, and I may not get another chance to observe surgery, making this co-op experience all the more special. The surgeon, recognizing my eageess to lea, interacted with me throughout the procedure, explaining each step and inviting me to come closer for a firsthand look. I observed the entire process, from the patient being put to sleep to the final stitches before heading to the recovery room.Another exciting aspect of today was the surgeon giving me leftover clay used beneath the metal knee joint to clean debris. Placing my hands in a bowl, I received the clay, initially unsure of its purpose. As I played with it while watching the surgeon close up the wound, the clay began to stiffen and grow hotter. It got so hot that I had to switch hands to hold it. tu est mon amour de ma vie...

I'm currently at work while also preparing for my upcoming makeup final exam on Friday. At the moment, there's a patient in room 17, which is located across from the central area where I typically sit. This patient is an 80-year-old male who deals with short-term memory loss, often coming out of his room every 5-10 minutes, expressing a strong desire to go home. What strikes me about him is not just his condition but his remarkable attitude. He's consistently cute and kind in his interactions.Whenever he asks to go home, the nurses have to come up with creative stories to explain why he can't leave. Sometimes, when I'm alone at my station without a nurse present, he'll approach me and inquire why he can't go home. I don't mind answering his questions at all because each time I do, he responds by saying how nice and kind I am, expressing his appreciation for the help. I genuinely feel for this gentleman and care about his well-being. It's akin to having a neighbor who knocks on your door every 5 minutes, but because he's so affable, you're more than willing to assist. The fact that there isn't a cure for memory loss troubles me deeply, and it's not just memory loss; there are many medical conditions for which we lack effective treatments. While we do admirable work in the hospital, saving lives and improving the quality of life for countless individuals, I can't help but empathize with those who suffer from conditions we can't yet treat. Both of my grandfathers battled Parkinson tu est mon amour de ma vie...

I'll publish this for my own so if you reading this please excuse my grammar and spelling mistakes! :)You know what? I really did not think I would enjoy Hospital pharmacy in any way. I just signed up for it during my coop to experience the environment but I never thought I would like hospital pharmacy this much. The unit I am currently work at I cover 3 different units on the 5th floor, which are storke 5N, Clinical teaching unit CTU 5S, and Acute Elderly Care 5A and General Medicine 5C. There are 80 patient in the whole floor that we cover for and I am supper happy that I got this placement over other positions because I have been dealing with different patients from different units on a daily basis which help me to apply the pharmacy school knowledge to real cases. There have been multiple instances that I questioned my success in pharmacy. During last coop when I was working as a student at SDM, I encountered underappreciation of pharmacists on multiple occassions. Additionally, although I was always interested in the business aspect of pharmacy and thought of having my pharmacy at some point in the future, the care was attempted to be both business and patient centred care and I did not like it too much. Plus, there people who come to the place yelling at pharmacists thinkin they are their slaves and demanded medications. When I was conducting medication reviews for patients, there were occassions that they did not want to share their medical information with me saying that tu est mon amour de ma vie...
